A Quick Look at your Cheeks…

Most people think that they know where the apples of their cheeks are.  But guess what?  A lot of you are wrong!  It helps to have a visual aid when trying to understand.

———————

When you smile, your cheek muscles should bunch up, creating the shape that beauty experts have dubbed the “Apple”.  However, if you’re focusing on the super-squishy area that is right next to your nose, you’re not putting it in the right place!

^^Incorrect^^

You don’t want to concentrate your blush on this area!   Your nose is an area which naturally has a bit more redness, and applying blush so close, no matter what shade,  will accentuate discoloration, and can even make your eyes look red and puffy!  It will also make your face look rounder… not necessarily a bad thing, unless you’ve already got a circular face and are trying to elongate it!

—————————-

SO… where ARE the apples of your cheeks?!   They’re not far away… only about an inch away.  The apples are spaced farther out on your face, on the wide, fat part in the middle of your cheeks.

^^Correct!^^

This is the area where your cheeks would naturally become flushed.  Applying your blush here will flatter your face more (any shape!) and is much easier to blend.

———————-

In order to add depth to your face, you must contour!  Contour with a matte, brown bronzer that doesn’t look like dirt against your skintone.  Apply this to the indentation underneath your cheekbones (Even if you think you don’t have them, you do!! Everyone does!)  Also contour from your temples upward on your forehead lightly.

You don’t need to apply a lot of contour color - in fact, you shouldn’t!  Use a smaller blush to apply the color, and then a fluffier brush to blend upwards.  Especially on your cheeks, don’t blend the color down towards your jawbone, blend upwards towards your cheekbones and temples.

Highlighting is an equally important step to make your complexion look dewy, fresh and natural!  Matte is NOT natural.

Highlight can be anything from a frosted pink liquid to a shimmery champagne eyeshadow.  Apply this on the tops of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and along your cupid’s bow.

Everything should be done lightly and blended well.  Streaks are not a good look!
