Hello to all of my prom girls and guys!  This is the time of year when I get flooded with TONS of questions about specific hair and makeup looks for certain dress colors, styles, and so on.  I love getting questions like this (mostly because I wish that I could go to prom again!) but as with most questions I get, I won’t be able to answer all of them.  SO I wanted to make you aware of DrugstorePrincess’ prom tag, which is full of pictures of hair and makeup (as well as tips) that I found appropriate for prom!

MAKEUP ADVICE:
Pick one feature that you want to make the focus - your eyes or your lips.  If you are a makeup pro, you can certainly push the envelope, but if you are doing your own makeup and you don’t really have much experience, don’t try out some crazy idea that you’ve never practiced before!  Keep it simple, youthful, and just a bit sexy, so that you can look back on your prom pics in years to come and not be embarrassed (I’m speaking from experience here!)
If you choose to put the focus on your lips - you will probably be a real standout at prom.  Pick a lip color that compliments your attire, whether it be a matching shade or a standout red to contrast a neutral dress.  Apply a lip stain or lip liner to your lips underneath your lipstick to make the look last, and keep your lipstick with you all night.  Pair bold lips with a simple eye, like some classic-hollywood winged liner.
If you want to make your eyes stand out, decide whether you want to go neutral  or colorful.  Neutral eyes compliment every dress, hair, and skin tone.
To incorporate color into your eye makeup, pop just a bit in the same shade, or a variation of the shade of your outfit, on the center of your lid.  Keep it neutral in the crease and outer corner to keep you from looking clownish or otherwise inappropriate for this formal occasion.  Pair any bold eye look with a subtle lip and sculpted cheeks.
HAIR ADVICE:
To updo, or not to updo - that is the question.  Well, if your dress has straps, go for the updo, or at least pull the hair away from your face to show off the detail at your neckline & shoulder.  If your dress is strapless, you can still do an updo IF you are comfortable baring so much of your shoulders and chest!  Having some or all of your hair down could be more comfortable for people who aren’t used to wearing their hair up to begin with.
For some hair inspiration, check out http://drugstoreprincess.com/tagged/hairstyles - many you will be able to do yourself!
