June ‘13 Beauty HITS and MISSES!

Well Beauties, here we are in the midst of summer!  I hope you’ve all been having fun in the sun (it’s been sweltering hot and raining every day where I live) and staying safe this month.

My Hits and Misses are all over the place, but all really important to me and on trend!  Click through to read what I’m loving and leaving… enjoy!

Ardell Invisiband Wispies - $4

These are my favorite lashes right now!  They are everything I want my own eyelashes to be… full and fluttery, with the perfect amount of length.  No, I don’t wear lashes every day, but these make me want to!  They really make your eyes pop - the way the lashes are arranged rather haphazardly makes your eyes look more open and awake.  They aren’t too long, so they don’t graze your eyebrows, and they aren’t so thick that they look obviously fake.  They are soft and can be worn for any occasion!  Plus the “invisiband” looks so natural on the eye (you can see that the band of the lashes is clear, which is why it looks like they’re just little clumps of lashes at the base.)  Love ‘em!  -  Buy -

Flower Beauty “Easy on the Eyes” Long Wear Eyeliner Pencil - $6

I wouldn’t say that this is the most incredible pencil that I’ve ever used, but it certainly has passed all of my tests with flying colors!  I have this in the black color, and I use it on my waterline mostly.  I hardly ever wear pencil eyeliner, but when I do, I want it to stay put.  This really does!  It’s soft and pigmented, making it really easy to apply, and it sets quickly to a water resistant finish.  You can smudge it out with a brush to your liking, and it doesn’t last 6+ hours, but it manages to stay looking good throughout whatever occasion it is that I’m wearing it for.  It’s a mechanical pencil, which isn’t to my liking because I feel like they get full of bacteria (whereas if you sharpen a pencil, you get new, clean product every time).  But it’s convenient, inexpensive, and the packaging is sturdy and effective.  I have been using this often!  - Buy -

Crest 3D White Luxe Toothpaste - $5

I know what you’re thinking… “Really, Hilary?  A toothpaste?”  Yes really!  My fiance was actually the one who picked this up, surprisingly, and I don’t think I’ll ever use another toothpaste again.  It cleans great, leaves my mouth feeling fresh, yadda yadda… but the best thing is how amazingly white it’s made my teeth.  Now I’ve been using a lot of whitening products through the past year (hello, I know you’ve seen every YouTube/Instagram guru promoting the hell out of Whitening Lightening - I had it first!), but this toothpaste is what amazed me the most.  It instantly makes my teeth look bright white, and after a few uses I really noticed a lasting difference in the stains I once had.  I have a really bad lifestyle, teeth-whitening wise, and I’m just so impressed and in love with this toothpaste I can’t even believe.  I’ve never had this kind of experience with a toothpaste, so it’s a big deal.  - Buy -

Laura Geller Spackle Under Makeup Primer - $27

If you’re following me on Twitter, you’ll have already seen this one coming!  This primer has been on the list for my favorites for a while now.  I’m not usually one to rave about primers, but this is really awesome.  I have combination-to-oily skin, so makeup longevity is always a problem for me, but this primer really helps me out with that.  It creates a really flawless base for makeup to go over - it fills in my pores and glosses over blemishes without feeling heavy or sticky like some silicone based primers can.  Plus the pump packaging is just to die for!  Good job, Ms Geller!  - Buy -

Pur Minerals 4-in-1 Pressed Powder Foundation - $26

Looky here, another cosmetic gem that I found on Hautelook!  I only paid $12 for this powder, and I was really excited to get it.  For some reason I’ve really been on a powder-foundation kick, because in the summer months I want everything on my face to be as light and as simple as possible!  So right now I’m really on a quest for full-coverage powders (if you have any recommendations, let me know!)  I was skeptical of this because I don’t like mineral makeup very much with my skin.  I applied this over concealer and primer with a flat-topped powder brush, and this gave quite a bit of coverage!  I would definitely consider it to be full coverage, and bonus - it didn’t look like I’d piled tons of powder onto my face.  Instead it looked really natural, almost skin-like.  It doesn’t really control oil amazingly throughout the day, but it’s easy to touch up when your makeup is only powder!  I’m very pleased with this, and I’ll be getting another one if there is another Hautelook sale!  - Buy -

Milani Shadow Eyez - $6

These are cream eyeshadows in pencil form, very similar to NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils!  But… these blow NYX’s out of the water.  The colors are very smooth and opaque, so you can use them alone or underneath powder eyeshadows as a base!  But the really amazing feature is the longevity!  Soooo many cream eyeshadows claim that they won’t crease or fade, but these actually live up to that!  They are “12 hour pencils”, and I do think that’s true.  Get some!  There are gorgeous limited edition shades out right now as well, so if you can find them, grab ‘em up!  - Buy -

Covergirl Clean Whipped Creme Foundation - $7

I didn’t buy this expecting to love it.  Covergirl and I have had a longgggg history of disagreements… but since I ended up loving their recent release of the Outlast liquid foundation, I thought that maybe, just maybe, this would be good too.  I don’t know why I thought that… I hate the “Clean” line, I hate whipped foundations (with the exception of Revlon’s Colorstay Whipped), and I hate paying over five dollars for a product that only has .06 ounces in it (that’s like… nothing!)  This gave medium coverage, which was decent, but not enough for me, considering it’s not buildable at all.  Whenever you try to cover a bit more, it gets very cakey in appearance, so it isn’t worth trying.  After wearing it for about two hours, my skin got so uncomfortable I just wanted to take it off immediately.  It felt sticky and heavy, and I was so incredibly shiny (even though I’d set it with a powder).  I also was not pleased with the colors… they were either very pink, or very orange, and as with most Covergirl foundations, they oxidize like crazy!  I’m not pleased with this at all, and it’s going back to the store ASAP.

Hard Candy CC Cream - $8

I’m so, so sad that this didn’t work for me.  I’m trying really hard to find something in this double-abbreviated-beauty-trend world that I can love, but this just is not it.  Everything about this was wrong… it’s runny and sticky, feels and looks cakey, but covers nothing!  It’s impossible to find a decent tool to apply this with, even fingers, without this looking streaky and patchy on the skin. It doesn’t set, even with powder, etc, and is just so uncomfortable.  I love most Hard Candy products, but this was a huge miss.

So my Beauties, what do you think?  Do you agree, disagree?  What were your hits and misses?  Let me know, I always love hearing from you (even if I don’t always have time to respond).  Also, check out my previous months’ Hits and Misses here!  Here’s to an awesome July!
