I know I'm never going to catch you probably because of all your questions you get, but I still keep trying because I hope one day you'll get my questions. So I just recently started using lipstick. I'm pretty new to makeup in general but I found CoverGirl's Lip Perfection in Enchantress and fell in love. I was wondering what other lipsticks you would recommend. I really like those bright pinks and love how moisturized it made my lip while I was wearing it.
reefviewsbykaity

Hi hon!  Today is your day, haha!

image

Covergirl Lip Perfection lipstick in Enchantress - $7

I love CG Lip Perfection lipsticks… they are creamy and moisturizing and still pack a punch of color!  Enchantress is a really gorgeous blue-toned pink that would compliment any skin tone.  If you like that color and consistency, then you would probably like these (not the same colors, of course, but similar that would probably look good on you):

image

Maybelline ColorSensational in Party Pink

image

Maybelline Color Whisper in Petal Rebel

image

Maybelline Color Whisper in Pinup Peach

image

Revlon SuperLustrous in Wink for Pink

image

Rimmel Moisture Renew in Pink Chic

image

Milani Color Statement in Fruit Punch

And even if you don’t like those colors necessarily, you will certainly like those brands/lines of lipstick, because they are all creamy and very similar to the Covergirl ones.  :)

BEST DRUGSTORE FOUNDATIONS - by DrugstorePrincess

I’ve created this list of mini reviews for you keeping in mind every skin type and specific need.  These foundations are liquid or cream, and include only options from the major drugstore brands.  Yes, it is a lengthy list (in no particular order, mind you) and different foundations will work better for different people.  I’ve tried to list all of the pros, color ranges, and other details, as well as any notable cons for your consideration.  Hopefully this list will be helpful!  Enjoy!

So, I definitely just created a tumblr account, specifically because I LOVE your blog and wanted to ask you a question :). Have you ever found and good dupes for Golden Tigers Eye, smudge proof eyeliner by Tarte?
kelleiwhat

Haha oh my goodness, thank you!  Prepare yourself to be addicted to Tumblr! ;)

I don’t think I’ve ever tried or swatched the eyeliner you’re talking about, but I looked it up and it seems to be a coppery-bronzey pencil?  So although I don’t know if I’m giving you exact dupes, I can give you a few close replicas - at any rate, a close match will probably suffice over a $19 Tarte Eyeliner, haha!

image

Tarte Skinny SmoulderEyes Pencil in Golden Tigers Eye - $19

image

NYX Slide On pencil in Golden Bronze - $8

image

Rimmel London ScandalEyes Kohl Kajal Pencil in Bronze - $4

image

Covergirl Queen Collection Vivid Impact pencil in Truffle - $7

image

NYX Retractable Eyeliner in Bronze - $4.50

image

Wet n Wild Color Icon Liner Shimmer Stick in Copper - $2

Hopefully you can look into a few of these and find something that will work great for you!  Happy to help :)

ever bronzer I've every tried using is too orange (I'm very pale), do you have any suggestions?
doyouplaybasketball

If you’re really struggling, try using a blush instead of a bronzer - it can look much more natural.

For the traditional contoured look, try a neutral, cool-toned color, like NYX blush in Taupe:

or L’Oreal True Match blush in Rosy Outlook:

Otherwise, stick to a natural rosy pink, and apply it very lightly just under your cheekbones.  It will still sculpt your cheeks, but make you look flushed instead of oompa-loompa’d.

Try:

Covergirl Cheekers in True Plum or Rose

Rimmel Lasting Finish in Pink Rose

Benefit Hervana Blush

Pet Peeve:

Whenever (mostly) anyone talks about Covergirl LipPerfection Lipsticks, they always repeat the name incorrectly.  There are two lines; the top is the name of the lippie in English, and the bottom is the name of it in Spanish.

So for instance, people will call CG “Tempt”,  ”Tempt Seduction”.  No no.

Don’t mind me, just ranting.

I have really short, really blonde eyelashes and a budget. :/ can you help with that?
jumpingjellyfishies

Hello!  Don’t worry, that’s what we have mascara for :)

You’ll need a mascara with a thick, pigmented formula.  Since your lashes are short, try to get a mascara with a brush that’s rather thin. Here’s a few to try that aren’t expensive:

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara - $6

L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black - $7

Maybelline Full n Soft - $7

Covergirl LashBlast Length - $7

what is the best kind of red lipstick for people with pale skin? i see some sites say use red lipstick with coral undertones, and some say blue undertones.
itsmeian

Both are correct… for the most part.  ”Coral” wouldn’t be an undertone as much as it would be a shade of red… a pink-toned orange.  If you’re into coral, choose one that is as pink as you can, like Revlon Superlustrous CoralBerry lipstick

When looking for a true red lipstick, reds with pink tones or blue undertones will be your friends.  They will flatter the cool tones of your skin.  Lipsticks with blue undertones will also make your teeth look whiter!

Try:

Revlon Matte in In The Red

Revlon Colorburst in True Red

Covergirl LipPerfection in Tempt (To all of the world, this shade is called “Tempt” not “Tempt Seduction”… “Seduction” is the name in Espanol…)

Maybelline ColorSensational in Red Revolution

Maybelline ColorSensational in Red Revival

Wet n Wild MegaLast in Red Velvet

NYX Black Label in Hebe

Lipsticks with blue undertones are flattering on all skin tones, including those with dark skin.

If you have warm undertones to your skin, you may also choose reds that have a yellow undertone to them (think fire-engine red, or orangey-shades).  These will compliment your skin tone as well.

Best foundation for dry medium-tone skin? Best product to use for dark spots?
Anonymous

My picks for dry skin:

Revlon Age Defying Spa Makeup - $8

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup - $9

Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse - $6

Covergirl NatureLuxe Foundation - $7

If your dark spots are caused by old acne marks, try Neutrogena Rapid Clear Fight & Fade Gel

Otherwise try Garnier Nutrisse Skin Renew Clinical Dark Spot Correcter

what mascara would you recommend for getting really dramatic/long lashes?
sarahsyear

Find a mascara with a small, thin brush.  These will easily get to the roots of the lashes, making them look as long as possible.  Fat brushes won’t be able to reach the base of the lashes (at least not without smearing product everywhere!)

Check out:

Maybelline Lash Stiletto - $6

L’Oreal Telescopic - $8

L’Oreal Voluminous Original - $8

Covergirl LashBlast Length - $7

My 2-Week Makeup Challenge: Day 6

You can find the challenge post *here* if you’d like to join in!

Day Six:  List every foundation you’ve ever used (that are worth mentioning) from Best to Worst

(I’m only going to do the inexpensive foundations I’ve used… otherwise this will be a VERY lengthy post!)

 Revlon Colorstay for Combination/Oily Skin

Big surprise!  I’ve reviewed it Here and Here

————————————————————

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Compact Makeup

Neutrogena Healthy Skin is a miracle foundation for those of us with normal, dry, or very dry skin!  It’s hydrating and really nice to your skin, and can actually help heal and prevent breakouts.  This is a cream makeup that comes in a sleek compact.  This can apply very sheerly or can give a lot of coverage depending on how you apply it!  With SPF 55 you’re protected wherever you go. **I would also place the Healthy Skin Liquid Foundation in this spot - it is just as nice!**

——————————————————-

Physician’s Formula Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer

This is my summer-skin staple!  This provides a ton of moisture and sheer, even coverage.  This also contains SPF 15… and the best part is that it is 100% Certified Organic.  There are no parabens, fragrances, dyes or other harmful ingredients, meaning that it’s going to baby your skin.  I love it!

————————————————————-

Revlon PhotoReady Foundation

This is a fabulous makeup product.  It provides very light but good coverage; it hides blemishes and other flaws very well, and is luminescent on the skin.  This is great for people with oily to normal skin (and dry skin, as long as you’re not flaky). It lasts quite a while on the face and the packaging is an incredibly convenient pump!

—————————————————————

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer

This is another tinted moisturizer that is very dear to my heart!  Although the coverage is sheer, it is even and luxurious.  It is very hydrating, contains SPF 20, and also includes Retinol which moisturizes, prevents wrinkles and can treat acne.

—————————————————————

L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Makeup

This is a creamy, easy-to-apply foundation that comes in a TON of shades, with different undertones to help you find the right color for you.  This does require a powder to set it if you have oily skin, but otherwise it lasts a decent amount of time.  True Match provides medium coverage and doesn’t feel cakey!  Unfortunately the bottles are small and inconvenient.

————————————————————-

 Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse

This is a creamy, hydrating whipped foundation ideal for people with dry or normal skin.  Although this isn’t particularly longwearing, the texture is divine and it provides flawless coverage.  It softens the skin and doesn’t accentuate rough patches.

———————————————————————-

Almay Truly Lasting Color

TLC foundation by Almay is actually quite nice.  It does last a good amount of time, but I wouldn’t classify it as a “longwear” foundation.  The colors are varied and the coverage is nice… about medium to light.

—————————————————————

Maybelline SuperStay Foundation

This is an okay product, but it doesn’t wow me.  It lasts longer than most foundations, but not long enough to be impressive.  It doesn’t control oil, and gets slightly shiny.  However the coverage and texture is similar to Colorstay, and you get a lot of product for your money.

————————————————————-

Rimmel Clean Finish Foundation

This is the only real foundation that I’ve enjoyed from Rimmel (that hasn’t been discontinued).  Although there’s really nothing clean about it, it does feel light on your skin while providing a nice medium coverage (not “poreless” as it claims).  The shade selection is not impressive, but if you are lucky enough to find the right color this is a decent product.  Also - to claim that there are “Vitamins” in a makeup product is a lie, and/or does nothing for your skin!

——————————————————————

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse

This is a very popular foundation, and a lot of people seem to love it, but I’m afraid it’s a definite miss for me.  It just feels so cakey, and it doesn’t last long at all.  Even the matte finish, which at first is nice, turns shiny after a good half day of wear.  This is definitely something for oily-skinned people, because it accentuates flakes and dry patches on those who didn’t even know they had any.

——————————————————————-

Covergirl NatureLuxe Liquid Foundation

This is a very light, sweet smelling foundation that provides light coverage with an incredibly smooth texture.  However it only lasts about two hours and then leaves the skin feeling horribly greasy!  Even with powder, this doesn’t stay on your face, even if you don’t have oily skin.  The shade selection is quite poor, and there is NOTHING natural about this product.

—————————————————————-

Covergirl Clean Liquid Foundation

In my highschool years, I used Covergirl faithfully.  Looking back, it’s no wonder why I had a face full of acne!  Even though these claim to be “clean”, they aren’t at all.  The coverage is decent, and they don’t feel heavy on the skin, but the formulation of these is horrible and well-known for causing breakouts.  Even the oil-control formula doesn’t hide greasiness throughout the day!  These also transfer onto everything with the slightest touch.  I’m not a fan.

—————————————————————————

Maybelline FITme! Liquid Foundation

This foundation had a lot of hype when it first came out, but soon people realized it’s true nature.  Although it does work nicely for some people, for most it causes horrendous breakouts!  The shade selection is very nice though, which is surprising, and it looks very nice when originally applied.  It doesn’t have a long wear time, though, and this makeup transfers easily as well.  Too bad!  The shade range gave it good potential.

————————————————————————-

Covergirl TruBlend Liquid Foundation

This was my go-to in high school, and as I mentioned previously, my skin reflected that (badly!)  Even though this claims to “truely blend” into your skin, it doesn’t - it sits on top, feels greasy (and LOOKS greasy), transfers off your face within a few hours, and is not good for your skin whatsoever.  There are also only about 6 shades… very disappointing.  I blame my prolonged use of this on sheer ignorance!

—————————————————————-

ELF Studio Tinted Moisturizer

Unfortunately, I have to put this at the bottom!  As much as I love ELF, their foundation products simply don’t do the job.  This applied patchily, smelled strongly of sunscreen, had a horrible shade selection, provided NO moisture, and faded within an hour, literally.  It has the texture of a whipped mousse, but won’t blend into the skin at all.  It just plain looks bad.

———————————————————————-

Don’t worry… it’s OKAY if you disagree with me!  Certain products work better for certain people, and we all have different preferences when it comes to finish, texture, and formula.  These are my opinions.

MAC Cremesheen Crosswires Lipstick DUPE!

beautywithshannon:

CoverGirl Fairytale ($7) / MAC Crosswires ($14.50)

Looking at them, they LOOK similar (CoverGirl looks a bit more pink), but when worn they’re almost exact dupes!

On the left side of lips: CoverGirl. Right side: MAC.

Swatches without flash (top: Covergirl, bottom: MAC):

With flash:

MAC has a bit more of a glossier finish and feels more moisturizing. They both have about the same lasting power!

Have, love, and agree!
