Dupe of the Day!
MAC 217 eyeshadow blending brush VS Coastal Scents Pro Blending Fluff brush
The MAC 217 is one of the most popular eye brushes in the world - the shape is perfect for blending out eyeshadows with minimal effort involved!  It is a rounded, slightly fluffy eye brush with a ferrule that is pinched in flat at the base, creating a really unique shape.  The MAC 217 costs $23
The Coastal Scents Pro Blending Fluff does all of the same things that it’s MAC dupe does!  It’s expert shape and soft yet effective bristles create the perfect tool for blending.  It even has the same white bristles and pinched ferrule.  The only difference is that the CS brush’s bristles are slightly shorter than the MAC brush’s, making the whole brush a little more round.  However it still performs the same!  The Coastal Scents Pro Blending Fluff costs $5

Do you know of any inexpensive purple/plum colored lip sticks that go well with fair skin?
grapeofwrath

Certainly!  All winter long I was obsessed with purple lipsticks of all shades, so I have a few ones I’m in love with.  The only thing I would wonder was whether you were gong for a “vampy” look or something more subtle… the terms purple and plum can vary from person to person, so I wouldn’t be positive of the exact shade you want.  I’ll give you a few various colors!  Fortunately, purples look great on fair skin… all skin tones, really, but they are especially breathtaking on pale skin!

image

Covergirl Lip Perfection “Divine” - $6

Super creamy, opaque formula.  Color is exactly the same as pictured… almost neon.

image

Maybelline Vivids “Brazen Berry” - $6

Very creamy formula, with buildable opacity.  Color is very similar to MAC Heroine, just a bit more sheer.

image

Milani Color Statement “Violet Volt” - $6

This is a creamy, opaque violet shade with pink undertones and a small amount of duochrome-like shimmer.  It is a near perfect dupe for MAC Violetta.

image

NYX Round Lipstick “Castle” - $5

This is an opaque, medium-toned lavender shade, that is very bright and creamy.

image

Wet n Wild MegaLast “Sugar Plum Fairy” - $2

(My personal all-time favorite)  This is a very opaque, matte lipstick that’s a nearly perfect dupe for MAC Rebel.  The color is a vibrant plum shade.

image

Revlon SuperLustrous “Berry Haute” - $6

This is a creamy, soft lipstick in a gorgeous medium pinky-purple shade.

image

Rimmel Kate Moss “04” - $6

This is an opaque, dark purple with an almost-matte finish.  This is very vampy and cool-toned.

Hopefully you like my recommendations!  There are many more purples out there, but these are ones that I use frequently and have lots of love for :)

Do you know a good dupe for MACs Russian Red?
a-brione

Yes, I do!

image

MAC Russian Red - $14.50

True red color with a very neutral undertone (neither obviously blue based nor obviously yellow based).  Suits all skin tones, and has a matte finish.

image

Wet n Wild MegaLast lipstick “Stoplight Red” - $2

Very opaque, smooth texture with a matte finish.  Color is almost an exact match

image

Revlon Matte lipstick “Really Red” - $6

Matte, very similar texture to MAC’s.  This color is also very neutral and flatters everyone!

image

NYX Matte lipstick “Pure Red” - $5

This is a very similar shade of red, with a more inky, natural feeling and highly pigmented texture.  It also has a matte finish.

Do you know a dupe for macs heroine
jessicabitchhh

I don’t have anything that I can say is a 100% dupe, but Maybelline Color Vivids “Brazen Berry” is very similar, just a different texture…  it’s creamier and slightly less opaque.  But if you’re in love with the color of Heroine, as I am, but missed out on the resale, Brazen Berry will certainly give you your color fix!

There are some other similar purple shades out there, but nothing is any closer than Brazen Berry!

what do you think is the best cream blush? can you give me a drugstore and highend option?
lildorkiiex

Hello!  Sure thing!  I’ve actually been using cream blush a lot recently, because my skin has dried out considerably.  I actually have more drugstore favorites than high end ones, simply because I use these a lot more than the more expensive options I have in my collection.

image

NYX Rouge Cream Blush - $6

This is probably my favorite, out of all the cream blushes I’ve used, in the terms of value, color, consistency, and wear time.  There are 12 shades to choose from, and the texture is very soft- a true cream consistency.  You only need a small amount, and it blends effortlessly onto the skin, so it is practically foolproof.  You can also layer it on for a more intense color.  It lasts for most of the day and doesn’t get patchy or cling to any dry skin you may have.  It also doesn’t look too shiny and doesn’t slide off of oily skin.

image

ELF Studio HD Blush - $3

These blushes I’ve talked about before… they are very vivid, highly pigmented liquid blushes in really convenient packaging.  One pump is more than enough to get a very natural look.  The color blends in easily and gives you a real punch of color - plus they are very affordable!  There are five shades available.

image

Revlon Photoready Cream Blush - $11

I would say that even though this is an expensive item, for being “drugstore”, anyway, it is very good quality and is sure to please.  It has the same, true creamy consistency as NYX Rouge, and the colors are bright and vibrant as the ELF HD blushes are.  They provide a really subtle sheen that highlights your cheeks as well as adds color.  The wear time is good as well, and they last about five hours before they begin to fade (on me, anyway.)  However, there are only three shades.

image

MAC Cremeblend Blush - $21

This blush is very creamy and has really even, smooth color.  It blends very easily onto the skin and is neither too sheer nor too vivid.  It is very similar to the NYX option I mentioned, but the colors are more “natural” and not as bright.

image

Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush - $26

Hey look, how similar to the ELF version, right?  They have the same, convenient pump packaging.  These blushes are very easily blended into the skin, and can be made sheer or layered to be very bright.  The colors themselves are bright and very pigmented, but have a gel-like consistency that make them wearable and easy to use.

Hope this gives you a few options!  :)

Looking for a similar dupe for MAC (Twig).
stablern

MAC’s Twig is a pretty hard lippie to find a dupe for (in fact, I’m not even sure you’re talking about the lipstick… you might be talking about the eyeshadow… oh well.)  All of the dupes that are listed elsewhere on the internet have been discontinued or are impossible to find, but I think I have a very similar shade!

image

MAC Satin Lipstick in Twig - $15

image

NYX Round Lipstick in B52 - $5.50

You can find NYX at Ulta or online :)

which foundation last longer mac studio fix fluid or maybelline fit me foundation?
detachedhuman

Definitely MAC Studio Fix would last longer.  Maybelline Fit Me isn’t a longwear foundation by any means, and will fade after a few hours.  MAC Studio Fix is meant to stay in place and provide good coverage.  :)

The difference between the two is that Maybelline’s is a more luminous foundation, whereas MAC SF has a matte finish.  Maybelline’s also has less coverage.

February ‘13 Hits & Misses!

It’s already March?! I’m not sure where the time’s going, but I can’t deny that I’m really excited for springtime!  Anyway, it’s time for my monthly beauty product hits and misses… I’ve got a few new products to talk about as well as some oldies.  Hope you enjoy!

image

I’ve got a LOT of hits this month - products that exceeded my expectations, that have just been released, and some that have been in my pile of favorites for months, if not years.  Here we go!

image

Flower Beauty - Cosmetics by Drew Barrymore

I’m mentioning this line of beauty products first for a reason!!  If you haven’t been listening to the beauty news buzz, Drew Barrymore recently released a full line of high quality cosmetics this year.  Her line contains EVERYTHING… literally everything, from BB cream and lip butters, to eyeshadow quads and nail polish.  Everything from Flower is 100% Cruelty Free, and is made from “the highest quality ingredients possible”… but that’s not even the best part!  What’s really awesome about Flower Beauty is that these products are sold exclusively at Walmart and Walmart.com

Flower products are probably considered to be at the “higher end” of the drugstore makeup scale, and their price reflects that - you should expect to pay anywhere from $6-$13 for each item, but you STILL can’t beat that price for the awesome quality of all these products.  Everything, from the lipsticks to the cream eyeshadows, has awesome pigmentation and texture, and all perform beautifully.  If you don’t believe that anything of high quality could be sold at Walmart only, read this excerpt from FlowerBeauty.com:

“You no longer have to spend a lot of money to get the quality cosmetics you want and deserve.

How do we do it? We do not pay for advertising. Where other beauty brands spend a vast percentage of the cost of their products on ads, we do not. Drew, as an owner of the brand, takes pride in promoting Flower, which in turn allows us to put all of our resources into the formulas and packaging, and not into advertising.”

And a quote from Drew Barrymore herself:

” The reason I have created this makeup line is because… I wanted to give women the finest formulas.  They deserve that level of quality, and I wanted to be the brand that gave it to them.”

Needless to say, I plan on trying as much as I can from this line, and backing it 100% until I see reason to do otherwise!  They’re not in EVERY Walmart yet (including the ones close to me) but they will be soon!  And when they do, I highly recommend checking Flower out.

New York Color Liquid Eyeliner

This eyeliner has been around for ages!  It was in fact the first liquid eyeliner I ever tried, and even though I’ve used countless others since I first got into makeup, this little cheapie has been a constant in my collection.  Lately I’ve been seeing tons of other makeup artists and beauty gurus mentioning/using this as well, and it’s really made me realize how incredibly awesome this eyeliner really is - not just because it’s affordable, but because the quality is there!

But the real reason I wanted to mention it this month is because for the past month I’ve gone without it - and been desperate to get it back!  Mysteriously I lost my tube of it, and decided that this was a great opportunity to break out of my box and try all these new liquid liners on the market!  I got ones from Wet n Wild, Maybelline, L’Oreal and Urban Decay… and I was disappointed in just about ALL of them!  It really made me appreciate my little $3 NYC liner that much more.

NYC Liquid Liner has an awesome, fine-tipped brush that makes the perfect line every time.  The formula is really glossy and opaque - never streaky, never dull, and it never bleeds into the fine lines on your skin or transfers onto your browbone after a couple hours of wear.  It doesn’t smudge or flake off prematurely, and it washes away so easily at the end of the day!  All for $3!  You just can’t beat that, and I don’t think I’ll be parting with this liner anytime soon again!

Wet n Wild Fergie Collection Take On The Day Eyeshadow Primer

You guys wanted a new, high quality eyeshadow primer from the drugstore, and WnW delivered!  In fact, the entire Fergie Collection recently released by Wet n Wild looks absolutely spectacular, but like with Flower, I can’t find it anywhere near me yet! *Cries*  However I did manage to find this primer, and I’m really happy I did.

This is a rather thick but blendable, light skintone-colored primer for your eyelids.  It is designed to prep your lids for eyeshadow, smoothing the skin and helping the colors show up better.  It also helps prevent creasing throughout the day.  I think that this primer works really well!  It isn’t greasy at all and I didn’t notice any creasing whatsoever when I used it.  It helps eyeshadows pop a lot more and blend easily.  And of course, because it’s from Wet n Wild, it’s only $5.

Urban Decay The Great and Powerful Oz “Glinda” Palette

Gee, another Urban Decay palette that makes my favorite list - imagine that!  At first, when the Oz palettes were released by UD (This and the “Theodora” palette, which contains “bad witch” colors) I was very skeptical, because I assumed these would just be bad promotion techniques for the movie, which will be in theaters March 8th.  But when I went to Ulta and swatched them, I couldn’t help but fall in love.  Initially Theodora was the palette I had my eye on, but I turned to Glinda because I don’t think I’ve ever owned a really feminine, lightly colored palette like this.

The Glinda palette contains 8 different colors (but there are only 6 pans, what?! Two pans are duos) and also comes with a travel-sized 24/7 Eyeliner pencil in a deep eggplant shade and a pretty peachy-pink Super Saturated lipcolor pencil.  The colors are typical Urban Decay - very soft and buttery, but do tend to have a bit of fallout.  However the colors themselves are dreamy and angelic - you can create really light, angelic looks or bring in some drama for dark or smokey types of eyes.  I laaahhhv it!

Milani Color Statement Lipsticks

Drugstore brands are doing a lot of good with me lately, particularly in the lipstick department.  Milani has long been one of my favorite underrated brands (see: Liquif’eye Pencil Eyeliner) and these lipsticks are REALLY impeccable!

The texture of these lippies is divine - they require minimal effort to yield awesome color payoff.  The formulas are opaque and pigmented - very soft and smooth to apply on your lips.  They feel moisturizing on, and last several hours before they begin to fade away.  The colors are great - there are 38 Color Statement lipsticks, varying from deep creamy red, to bright violet, to frosty pink, and include not-your-average shades like gold and almost-black berry.  Each only cost $6, and are well worth your money!  Beauty gurus and MUAs alike are raving about these across all types of social media, and you need to have them in your life.

Lonjure False Eyelashes

Lonjure is a relatively new brand that produces high quality lashes that are appropriate for any occasion.  I was introduced to this brand about a month and a half ago, and have been obsessed with them ever since!  I don’t wear falsies every day, although I will pop them on occasionally just for fun - I still haven’t been able to use up all of these gorgeous lashes!

Lonjure has 12 different styles of lashes, with four in each collection - Natural, Length, and Volume.  Their lashes are made with natural and synthetic hair, and will fit any sized eye.  The lashes don’t come with glue, but it’s probably better that way because I am never satisfied with the glue that comes gratis and it usually affects my overall opinion of the lashes themselves.  The only problem I’ve experienced with these lashes is that the glue used to adhere each lash to the packaging is a little excessive and makes the band stiff when you first remove them.  With a little bending to loosen them up, they become very easy to apply!  I don’t have a single favorite yet, but I haven’t found one that I don’t like yet, either!  You can find them on http://lonjure.com for $4.98 a piece!

Well I think that should be it for this month’s hits… if you want to see what products missed the mark for February, please CLICK THROUGH!  :)
