Deep conditioning is really simple, and there are many ways to do it yourself and create at-home recipes with tons of benefits.
All you have to do is apply the conditioner to your hair until it completely saturates all of your strands. Now clip it up, and wait the proper amount of time (anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour). Some you can rinse right out, others you may need to use shampoo to fully remove any oil residue.
Here is a post that mentions a few of my “bottled and sold” favorites *click*
When it comes to making your own, I recommend using one or mixing 2-4 various ingredients that will help smooth, hydrate, and add shine. Here is a list of household products that I like to mix and match to create different treatments:
- Olive oil
- Coconut oil
- Honey
- Egg whites
- Tea tree oil
- Banana
- Avocado
- Mayonnaise
Heat up and mix one or a few of these items together until the combination is liquidy and easy to apply (let it cool a bit before putting it on). Then leave on as long as you want!
All of these ingredients will nourish and soften your hair, but some have added benefits for people with certain issues. For instance if you have brittle hair, using ingredients with protein (like egg, avocado, etc) will help build up your hair’s strength. If your hair really lacks shine, choose oils or oily products (mayonnaise, coconut oil). Tea tree oil helps relieve itchy scalp and dandruff. Coconut oil is the best at restoring moisture, because the molecules are small enough to really penetrate the hair shaft.
Because you have thin hair, the only precaution I may advise is to not apply the conditioner too close to your scalp (unless you suffer from a dry scalp, then rub that stuff in good!) because they can be difficult to wash out (I’d shampoo and rinse twice).
