What would be the best kind of highlighter for someone with incredibly pale skin?
meowmeowbam

Generally, if you’re using a true highlighter, most will compliment all skin tones.  Highlighters are rather sheer, and mostly colorless - their intent is simply to add a glow and to catch light, not to add color to the skin.  Certainly, there will be some pinky highlighters, and some golden highlighters, and some bronzey highlighters, but none of those will have SO much pigment that they will look badly on your (or any) skin tone.  You don’t necessarily want a highlight that is going to have a ton of color.. because then you might as well just buy a shimmery blush or bronzer, right?

To be completely sure that your highlighter is right for your skin tone, go by your undertone (If you don’t know your undertone, look here)  If you have warm, yellow undertones, use a cream-colored highlight with a slightly golden finish.  If you have a cool, pink undertone, pick a color that has a slightly pink tinge.  Champagne-colored highlighters will work for all skin tones, as long as they are sheer.

Hi just found this blog, and absolutely love all your advice/opinions i am a huge fan of bronzers, and shimmers, what would you say has the best color/glow to it? what is your favorite bronzer? also do you have any favorite gradual tanning lotions or self tanners?

Hello, thank you!

If you like a shimmery bronzer, then baked bronzers are definitely the way to go.  They have a gorgeous sheen that is finely milled and not chunky or glittery - they look natural, but still glow.

I also really like these shimmery, but not “baked” options:

I have a bronzer addiction too, and I don’t think I could pick just one bronzer as my favorite!!

As for a gradual self tanner, I think that my favorite easily-accessed one is Jergen’s Natural Glow.  It gives the best color without streaking terribly, and it also provides moisture.  I just hate the smell of it.. mostly because it’s a memory triggering scent for me haha.

I also love Banana Boat Summer Color - I can’t find it year round, but that might just be because I live in NY and the demand isn’t there in the winter.

But my favorite tanning lotion that I’ve used is Color Couture!  I was sent their products a few months ago and I fell in love.  St. Tropez is also very good, if a little bit pricey!  :)

Hey, theBalm is on sale on HauteLook and I was wondering what the best products to buy would be for someone with really light cool toned skin?
fantasized-perfection

I absolutely LOVE The Balm - their packaging, their colors, and the quality of course.

All of the eyeshadow palettes would work for you - since they’re mostly neutral colors, anyone can pull them off.  I love all of the ones that are on there right now… the Nude’Tude palette is one of my special favorites, and the new Meet Matt(e) Nude palette looks really great (I have the original one).  The Shady Lady palettes are also exceptional… I couldn’t pick one ;)

Their glosses are very nice - sheerly tinted and very hydrating.  Their lipsticks aren’t my favorite because of the scent, but otherwise they’re very beautiful as well.

I love their cheek products most, I think - particularly the blushes (Down Boy is a gorgeous pink,  Frat Boy a poppin’ coral!) and the Mary Lou-Manizer Highlighter… it’s my FAVORITE ALL TIME love love love
