NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams
You aren’t going to find another product quite like this… these go on like a lipgloss, and look like a lipstick - but they’re matte! A silky, satin-y matte. They feel creamy on your lips and are so lusciously pigmented, no one would ever think that it comes from this little tube!
Each shade packs a real punch of color, and they feel soft and smooth on your lips. They don’t dry out your lips, like some matte lipsticks seem to - although if your lips are already chapped or rough, these won’t help hydrate.
These lip creams do actually last a long time throughout the day, as long as you aren’t eating - but that kind of wear is understandable for any type of lip product. Otherwise they stay vibrant four hours, and they fade very evenly. These tubes twist open and apply with a doe-foot applicator, so they’re pretty precise. There is also a light scent to these… a soft vanilla berry. It’s very subtle and is just pleasant when applied, and fades throughout the day. The only woe I’ve experienced with these is the packaging… the tops are not placed securely to the actual applicator, so I’ve actually gone through and superglued them together to save me frustration. They’re still able to open though!
Although these lippies are small, they’ll last you quite a while, as you don’t need to use a lot. They’re great for formal events or day-to-day wear! I definitely recommend getting several shades… there are fantastic nudes, pretty pinks and dramatic shades as well! $5.49

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils
NYX is one of those terrific brands that I never feel that I talk about enough. It’s a high-end brand at a low end price! These pencils are great for everyone.. from amateurs to professionals… because they have SO many uses! These fat sticks are creamy, easy to apply, and very pigmented. You could use them as eyeshadow, eye base, or eyeliner - an all in one tool for sure! These come in 27 incredible shades… from pretty neutrals to vibrant brights. Apply these directly onto your lids and blend with a brush or your finger, and you’ve easily got a great look. The only downsides to these - they are almost too creamy, and they will crease or smudge if you don’t set them with powder. You also need to sharpen them (once upon a time they twisted up, but they’ve changed that) but sharpening pencils actually sanitizes them and makes them safer for your eyes. All in all, I think they’re a bargain! $4.50

ELF Shimmering Facial Whip
This is the ideal product for those of you who want a dewy, bright complexion.. instead of a flat, matte foundation-ed face. This is a cream highlight for all areas of the body… great for highlighting cheek bones, or a 15-second eyeshadow, or as body shimmer! Part of the ELF Essential collection, this little tube is shockingly cheap, but is EASILY comparable to high end highlights, like Benefit High Beam, etc. It’s great for all skin types, as it’s infused with Vitamin C and doesn’t leave the skin feeling oily. These come in 7 different shades, and can be used as traditional frosty highlights, cream blush or cream bronzer.. it’s up to you! I have absolutely ZERO complaints, and I highly recommend it to everyone!! $1.00

Queen Helene Mint Julep Facial Masque
Favorites Alert! This is my go-to product for clear skin, an even complexion and minimized pores. This masque is unique because it zaps zits WITHOUT using the harsh chemicals benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which you normally see in anti-acne products. This mask claims that “Mint Julep is the original natural home treatment developed by a dermatologist”… the natural ingredients DO help clear skin, wash away blackheads and shrink the appearance of pores. It’s a green clay mask, with sulfur as the secret ingredient - but no worries! It smells deliciously of sweet mint. It cools your face and tingles slightly, giving you the ultimate feeling of a spa experience. Once it’s dry, you simply wash it off with warm water. It only takes about 10 minutes… or you can leave it on overnight! The bottle contains a lot of product and it will last you ages. This mask is much cheaper than leading competitors and I think twice as effective as many of them. Love love love. $2.99

Wet n Wild Color Icon Pencil Eyeliner
Wet n Wild, as a brand, has really stepped up to the plate recently. As pencils go, I’m usually unimpressed. Either they smudge and smear at the slightest touch, fade away throughout the day, or you have to stab yourself viciously in order to get a crappy, uneven line. BUT not with the Color Icon liner. This pencil goes on incredibly smooth, but it isn’t greasy - in fact it hardly smudged at all through a whole 12-hour day (wearing eyeshadow and primer, but still!). You won’t be tugging on your lids, or having to apply multiple layers in order to get a decent line. These liners, like the shadows, are incredibly pigmented! Just one swipe across your lashline and you’ll have a perfect line. These are blendable as well, and work well for any look - from precise cat eye to smoldering smokey looks! I’ve tried tons of liners that cost $7 or more that worked horribly compared to this… so save yourself the hassle. Each pencil is nearly a foot long. You’ll need to sharpen them with a pencil sharpener, but they will last you forever! You can also choose from 14 different shades - all of them creamy, pigmented, and perfect. $0.99

Pssst! Dry Shampoo Spray
If you have ever woken up late in the morning, needing to run out the door but not wanting to look like a greasy slob… this is the product for you. Dry shampoo, if you’ve never tried it, will become your miracle in a bottle. If you’ve tried dry shampoo and been disappointed, then THIS product needs to be your next option… this is the holy grail.
Pssst! was actually the first brand of dry shampoo I ever tried, but when my original bottle ran out I experimented with other options. Yesterday I picked up a bottle of the new Pssst on sale, and GOOD LORD am I glad I did. I don’t remember it ever working this well, but perhaps they reformulated it… either way it’s now perfect. The scent is really light and isn’t overpowering. The spray is full but won’t make your hair wet. Just a couple quick spritzes at the roots of your hair and you’ll see amazing volume and an incredible just-washed lightweight feel. It helps hold texture and makes re-styling quick and easy.
I take my bottle with me to work so I can re-vamp my look when I get out. I take this on road trips and use it on mornings when I don’t have time to shower. It helps preserve my hair color and actually makes hair healthier - you’re not over stripping it of natural oils by continually shampooing. A large bottle of this will last you ages, and only costs about $6 at regular retail. Usually though, like me, you’ll be able to find it on sale! I definitely recommend picking some up - you never know when you’ll need it, and you’ll regret it if you don’t have it!! $5.99

St. Ives Green Tea Scrub
Green tea is a natural ingredient that can be used to clear breakouts as well as brighten dull skin! Make that into a scrub and you’ve got the ultimate recipe for radiant skin. This scrub is oil free and has tiny microbeads that exfoliate without damaging your skin (like the popular Apricot scrub can). This scrub also contains a small amount of salicylic acid - enough to zap your zits but not too much that would irritate or dry out your skin. Even better - this scrub doesn’t contain harmful parabens or phthalates. For such an inexpensive products the results are definitely amazing! $4.99

Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara
Never underestimate the power of a thin brush - because this mascara packs a lot of punch. Although it is classified as a ‘lengthening’ mascara, it does triple duty - lengthens, thickens, and adds incredible fullness to your lashes. The brush is narrow with short bristles, so you can get close to your roots for impeccable application; the formula itself is flexible and doesn’t flake, and is virtually clump-less. It’s perfect for people with all sorts of lashes, and I rate it higher than any high-end mascara I’ve used. Simple as that! $5.94

L’Oreal True Match Powder
When it comes to the world of powder foundations, I’m generally wary and unimpressed - most oxidize (turn orange on your skin) and wear off within a few hours… not to mention it’s nearly impossible to find the right shade for your skintone! However this L’Oreal powder is one of the only ones I find myself recommending, and wearing on a regular basis. It gives you pretty even coverage and doesn’t look powdery, or accentuate any dry areas, wrinkles, or blemishes you have like most powders do. Although it doesn’t last all that long, compared to most powder foundations it remains even for a lot longer. The best part is that it does ‘truely match’ your skintone - even the lightest or darkest ones. I have two, personally - a light one that I use occasionally to set my makeup, and a dark one that I use for a contouring bronzer! Its matte, soft finish makes it great for both purposes. If you’re a person who prefers powder, I’d switch to this! $8.99

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancers Tinted Moisturizer
This is one of the only drugstore brand tinted moisturizers that is oil-free! Being an oil-free product, it’s good for any skin type, and won’t break you out at all. This gives you sheer but even coverage, perfect for summer, and SPF 20 that will protect you from the sun’s rays. As an ADDED bonus, this product includes retinol - which is usually an anti-aging ingredient, but is amazing for almost all skin issues. Retinol will moisturize without causing greasiness, and is also proven to treat and prevent acne! The packaging is also a winning aspect; it has a pump, meaning easy application (you don’t dump too much product out and waste it!). The finish is natural and dewy, and it definitely moisturizes, although not quite as much as other moisturizers I’ve used. All in all though, if you have it in your area, pick it up! $11.25

Ecotools Brushes
If you’re at all familiar with DrugstorePrincess, you will have heard me recommend Ecotools to those looking for affordable, high quality brushes a thousand times. I suggest them over and over and over because… they’re just amazing! They are eco-friendly, made with bamboo and recycled aluminum, and the softest synthetic bristles that you’ll ever feel. Ecotools is a 100% cruelty free company, as well. Ecotools carries every kind of cosmetic brush you could ever want for, and they’re all incredibly high quality, with no fallout bristles and soft, smooth application. The only downside is that some brushes you can only get as part of a set - but the sets come with several brushes that you’d want, anyway. I definitely would look into them if you want to upgrade your makeup application experience without breaking the bank. $12.00 for sets; $3-$5 individually

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Foundation
If you have dry, normal, or acne prone skin, this foundation will actually breathe life back into your face. It claims to visibly improve the look and feel of your skin after use, and since it’s from the derma fave Neutrogena, it actually DOES! It’s hypoallergenic, so it doesn’t cause blemishes or irritation, and it is infused with good-for-your-skin vitamins. It covers imperfections without being thick, does not wear off throughout the day, and it looks sheer as if you’d never put foundation on to begin with! There aren’t enough shades to really make me happy, and it’s not particularly long-wearing if you have oily skin. However for a person with acne-prone skin, this product will turn your world into an easier place. $11.99

Chi Silk Infusion Hair Serum
I first fell in love with this product four years ago when I got the miniature 2oz bottle with my brand-new Chi Pink straightener for Christmas. This stuff turned even my thick, untameable golden mane into strands of silky gold, just as the name says. Even when applied near the roots, it does not leave the hair greasy, like most smoothing, hydrating serums - and it smells unlike anything else, in a good way! Just rub a dime sized amount in your palms and run through the lengths of your hair after the straightening process.. and you’ll be addicted, just like I am. This is not a heat protectant, but helps soften the hair, and will lay down fly aways and make damaged hair look much healthier! $13.97 for 6oz

Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara
Going along with my Neutrogena obsession, I absolutely LOVE my Healthy Volume mascara. It lengthens and plumps my lashes and doesn’t clump, plus it promotes the growth of new lashes and makes them stronger and thicker! The colors are pigmented and the formula contains olive oil, which makes your lashes healthy and happy. The only issue with this mascara is that the brush is quite fat, making it not-so ideal for people with short lashes. If you have medium-to long eyelashes, and prefer a subtle, natural look, this is a great product to try. $7.47

EOS Lip Balm
Evolution of Smooth lip balms have a cult following, and many people claim to be obsessed with them! Unlike most lip balms, this comes not in a tube, but in a cute little sphere. It’s easy and fun to use, and the flavors smell and taste great. They’re very fruity, but aren’t overpowering. However the formula itself isn’t that fantastic - it’s not super-hydrating, as it’s wax-based, but will create a healthy barrier between your lips and the elements, preventing them from drying out more. These also contain SPF, which will protect your lips from the sun. Another downside is that the round shape of these won’t fit in your pocket… but I’ve found that it makes them much harder to lose! $2.96

Kiss Everlasting French Nails
Nothing makes you feel more sophisticated than a great french manicure.. and nothing makes you feel more broke! Thankfully, Kiss French press-on nails are an inexpensive alternative that is easy, fun, and prettier than the $40 full set! Seriously, I’ve gotten more compliments and comments on my Kiss nails than any real manicure I’ve ever gotten. They’re perfect, thin, and shine like freshly polished nails for their entire wear! The Real Short nails are natural size and easy to work with, but these also come in longer sizes for every personality. The application of these is incredibly easy, and they feel light and natural. I’m thoroughly addicted, and I’ve always got a few packs in my beauty kit. $5.98

Secret Clinical Strength Deodorant
This is not just a deodorant for sweaty people! This yummy-smelling (if slightly pricey) pit stick keeps you dry and smelling pretty from morning to.. morning! Sweep it under your arms in the morning and stay fresh through sports, work, water, dancing.. anything… you could even skip a day, and you won’t get funky. My favorite is the Light and Fresh scent, which smells better to me than any other deodorant out there. It’s not a perfect product however: beware the telltale white marks on your dark clothing, and the dent in your wallet. $11.47

Physicians Formula Mood Boosting Happy Blush and Bronzer
I was skeptical to see if this heart-embossed combo would, in fact, boost my mood - and I was thrilled by how the little details of this pretty compact did brighten my day. The pack is hot pink (!) the blush itself is pretty colored hearts, and (ERMAGAHH) it’s sweetly scented! As with all Physician’s Formula blushes and bronzers, this provides the perfect amount of color. This isn’t too pigmented, to the point where it’s unwearable, but instead provides the perfect saturation of color that is easy to build up for more dramatic looks. The little pink brush that it comes with isn’t very helpful, but the shades are super-flattering, and since it’s Physicians Formula, it’s nice to your skin - no breakouts. The drugstore splurge is really worth it, in cuteness, effectiveness, and the compliments you’re going to get. $12.67

SalonPerfect Fake Lashes
Out of all the fake lashes out there, these are one my favorite brands. Recently they re-vamped their whole line, and now they have ‘natural’, ’dramatic’ and ‘romantic’ lashes in all lengths and lushness. (The romantic ones I picked up have rhinestones on them… !!) I like to wear falsies when I go out with my girlfriends, because they add a little somethin-somethin to my natural look. These lashes are made out of real hair, so they look and feel natural. They’re easy to apply and are very flattering to every eye shape! You can also get a Salon Perfect Lash Starter Kit that comes with a really great adhesive and beginner’s lash holders for easy application. Try them out! $4.98 for Starter Kit

Revlon ColorStay Brow Enhancer
I come from a line of women with weak eyebrows… since we’re all blonde, our eyebrows literally disappear as we get older. I was always very scared to use any kind of brow pencil, because I hate the look of painted-on eyebrows. But this amazing double-sided pen works wonders! The first side is a tinted wax, not the usual eyeliner-like crayon, so it looks natural and still fills in your brows (YES!). The other side is a beautiful highlighter to be used underneath the brows, which I use to highlight my eyes on the inside corner as well. The color is not dark, however, and it is difficult to truly make a solid line. However I think this stuff is great, especially for blondes… I even gifted one to my mother. $7.72

Bed Head Ego Boost Split End Mender
This sexy pink bottle is full of liquid miracles. Technically, this is a leave-in conditioner, and it really does mend your split ends as well as strengthen your hair! It smells great, and as with all of the Bed Head products, works wonderfully on all hair colors and types while being stylish and cool. The pump never clogs or breaks, and it looks cute sitting on your dresser. However, don’t over-apply, and don’t get anywhere near the roots! It weighs down your hair and can make it look greasey if you use over a dime-sized amount. Ego Boost is a bit of a splurge but your damaged hair will thank you! $16.98

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Facial Cleanser
You all know how much I dig Neutrogena, but even I was skeptical about their new ‘natural’ line of skin care. Usually “natural” to me means “ineffective” and “stinky” — but this is not the case with these products. The line includes a Pore Cleansing Scrub, a Fresh Cleanser + Makeup Remover, a Lip Balm, and the Purifying Facial Cleanser. I have yet to try the lip balm and the makeup remover, but the scrub and the cleanser really knocked my socks off! First of all, they smell great - fruity, the way my childhood bubble bath used to smell - and they are actually very effective. They sudsed and really felt good to use. So far they even have improved the look and clarity of my skin! Definitely a great product, minus the harmful parabens and chemicals that hurt your face and the environment.

Revlon PhotoReady Liquid Makeup
When this product first came out, I was excited to try it because, like most women, my makeup never looked great in different lighting (ahem, icky fluorescent bathroom lights?). The ads for this foundation promised that it would make my skin look flawless in EVERY light - and guess what. It does. There are minerals in this foundation that reflect light and compliment your skin tone, perfectly hiding any blemishes or discoloration and giving you a natural glow. I always use this if I’m going out at night, because it makes me look radiant even in bright lighting. However, I don’t use it every day, because overuse can cause breakouts - also, the formula of this makeup causes it to feel slightly gritty against the skin, but those are the minerals at work… it’s only a little off-putting. The overall effect is completely worth it, and I definitely suggest it. $11.97
DrugstorePrincess Rating: 7.5/10.0

Maybelline The Falsies Original Mascara
This is a mascara with a TON of hype, and although it’s not a miracle product, it will work very well for certain looks and people! The formula is thick and pigmented, and when applied correctly, will truly give you the look of dramatic, almost-fake, eyelashes. Fortunately for everyone, the brush is rather thin, and it is curved as well, which makes it easier to reach the tiny lashes at the inner and outer corners of your eyes. This is the perfect mascara for people with short, thin, and/or Asian-type lashes, as it will give both volume and length. However you shouldn’t apply more than one coat of this mascara… you don’t really need it, and adding extra layers will cause clumpiness, as well as dry out the formula, causing flakes. $5.94

Revlon SuperLustrous Lipstick
When it comes to lipcolor of any kind, Revlon is definitely the way to go. I am very picky when it comes to lipstick… I can’t handle a scent or taste of any kind (most drugstore lippies have a strange metallic, waxy taste). Revlon’s lipsticks don’t bother me whatsoever. The SuperLustrous line boasts over 70 shades… each are lovely, varied, and superbly pigmented! These apply opaque with one sweep, and the color lasts quite a while, fading evenly (rather than leaving funny colored splotches on the lips!) There is also a variety of finishes… Matte (which I absolutely adore, the best matte formulas under $20!); Creme, which is subtle and soft; and Pearle, which gives a lightly frosted finish. Highly HIGHLY recommend to lipstick lovers!! $7.94

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow
When I first saw these in the makeup aisle, I was excited to try them because A) P.F. is one of my favorite brands and B) because this is one of the only drustore eyeshadow palettes that I’ve seen coming with more than four shades. The Shimmer Strips come with NINE complimentary shadows in each palette, and there are three different palettes for each eye color - Natural, Bright, and Pastel. The colors are beautiful, concentrated and highly pigmented with the perfect amount of shimmer, and you can mix and match all nine shades to achieve a variety of sexy looks! These are high quality and truly wonderful, a definite recommend from me! $10.95

Aussie Catch the Wave Mousse + Leave-in Conditioner
Also in my younger years, when it was trendy to wear your hair as curly, crunchy, and wet-looking as possible, I embarked on an epic search to find a great hair scrunching product. Eventually my taste, as well as those of most others, changed into soft, touchable natural waves - to this day I attribute my bouncy natural waves to this mousse. Don’t you ever feel like your hair needs a break from your strict everyday styling rituals? Use this product once and your hair will feel better, more hydrated and stronger, I guarantee it! The mousse not only sculpts well and gives you sexy, not crunchy, locks, but the conditioners built into it work all day/night to replenish your hair with nutrients it’s being deprived of! I recommend it to those with wavy, curly or kinky hair, or to those who want to let their hair have a day of luxury. $3.99

Maybelline ExpertWear Eyeshadow Quads
These are definitely one of my favorite types of eyeshadow for several reasons: they come in the most exquisite color palettes, include a perfect how-to guide for creating a sexy look, come in matte and metallic choices, and the pigments transfer wonderfully to your eye. If I wear eyeshadow on any given day, there’s a great chance that I’m wearing one of these artful quads - each color tells you ‘browbone’, ‘lid’, ‘crease’, and ‘liner’, and comes with two sponge applicators that for some reason actually seem to work better than any other applicator I’ve used! The only downside to these shadows (they come in duos and singles as well) is that they’re not particularly long-lasting - they’ll be blurred or gone completely in about 8 hours, but that’s not much different from most eyeshadows - and I’ve found that wearing an eyeshadow primer underneath adds hours of life to your look. Definitely try them out! $4.99

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation
This is a product with a lot of hype, but it’s unique because the rumors are true.. this IS a fantastic product. It comes in every shade imaginable, and literally lasts all day (it claims to work for up to 16 hours without reapplication!). Perhaps the greatest part about these foundations is the fact that they come customized to your type of skin - it says right on the bottle if it’s for dry, oily, combination, or normal skin! You can also get a mineral/aqua version, microflex for active wearers, and oh - did I mention that it has 15 SPF?! It provides medium coverage, looks perfectly natural and goes on smoothly. Revlon does it again, and this is a perfect go-to everyday foundation for EVERYONE! $10.95

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum
Seriously… if you don’t have this liner, you need to get it immediately. I don’t know what first led me to purchase it, but I’m so glad I did.. it is the ultimate liquid liner, better than any high-end product out there. First of all, it makes your lashes grow - longer, fuller, darker, I swear. Within two weeks my lashes, which had suffered from a short-lived obsession with falsies, were completely renewed. But on top of that, this liner doesn’t flake, fade, smudge or budge, even with a whole day of wear. The applicator is perfect - it’s a sturdy brush, not a felt-tip mess, and it gives you the most exact, perfect line you could ask for. I swear, if I had to choose one eyeliner for the rest of my life this would be it, hands down, and I’m sad that I didn’t have this for my entire life. $11.00

Wet-n-Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Trios
If you’ve done recent research on drugstore makeup, you’ll know that the Color Icon line is all the rage, with critics rating them among high end shadows like Mac!! It’s clear why, because the colors are so pigmented and last much longer than your typical drugstore shadow (and at around $3 you can’t go wrong!) Each trio (you can also get singles and six-shade palettes) comes with two applicators - a sponge and a brush - which makes application easy. Another plus is that they come in bright colors that you normally can’t get in drugstore shadow, like hot pink, true black, bright blue and forest green. However I found that there aren’t good neutral palettes, and often the looks that you’re supposed to create with these shadows are garish. Instead I find myself mixing and matching different shadows from different trios. $3.00

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Original Primer
This stuff is a gift from the Makeup Gods! I have been looking for a cheapie mattifying primer and had almost given up my search. Luckily, my WalMart happened to have these in stock one night (they are usually out). This primer not only makes my skin super soft, but it also controls the oil on my face. My face gets SO oily SO easily. I have noticed that over the past week and a half that I have been wearing this that my face has been less oily. I would honestly compare this to Urban Decay’s De-Slick in a Tube. It is not quite as mattifying, but it still does a great job for a drug store primer. I have read some negative reviews on this where people claimed that it made them break out more. I have not noticed this, but my skin is acne prone no matter what I do to it, so I don’t think I can attribute any acne to this primer. People also have complained about the fact that it separates…easy solution—-all you have to do is SHAKE IT before you use it. And all you need is a tiny little drop for your entire face. It does the job. $6.00
